Twhirl 0.8.5 Adds Laconica Support

Twitter, Identica, Friendfeed, Seeesmic and Laconica – the list of services you can access from using a single client named Twhirl. The inclusion of Laconica support is great not only for the platform itself, but the users of the platform. This makes Twhirl and Laconica a much more attractive option when thinking of enterprise microblogging solutions.

There are already a few ready-to-use enterprise solutions in place: Yammer and Present.ly. The primary downside is that these are both hosted “in the clouds”, which incidentally is outside of most company firewalls. I’d be willing to bet that if enterprises were to take the jump into microblogging solutions, they might want it hosted internally, which is where Laconica wins (there are a number of things to consider when choosing a solution – look for a post on that later).

If you’re interested in testing out Laconica support in the forthcoming 0.8.5 release, you can grab the client here. You’ll need to have Adobe AIR installed in order to use it. The Twhirl team asks that you leave bugs and issues in the comments section of the preview announcement.

Actually, Present.ly is available to be installed behind the firewall for enterprise customers. It is offered both as a hosted service and an install on companies' own IT infrastructure.
