Posty, an Adobe AIR cross-platform client we discussed a few weeks ago, released an updated version of the application on Saturday, October 18.
New features in the latest version include the following:
- Automatic updates. Upon confirmation Posty downloads and installs new versions.
- Improved usability of login forms (which show up when needed)
- Clickable in-text links
- Url shortening (via http://is.gd/)
- Support to Twitter Direct Messages
- Support to Identi.ca Direct Messages
- Configurable notifications of new Twitter updates
- Support to Retweet
- Support to Twitter favorites
- Support to Identi.ca favorites
- Memorization of services to update, preselected on startup
- Choice of active services to be displayed on startup
The beta version of 1.6 was available October 6 and spent about two weeks in testing before being ready to be released to the public. Posty’s developer, Cesare Rocchi, depends heavily on his userbase to help identify problems and issues with the app. This saves him time, especially when he operates on his own, plus it gets the community involved in the application they are using, which will surely draw a more loyal fanbase of users.
My favorite updates in this release are:
- clickable links in messages
- automatic updates
- choice of active services to be displayed
Clickable links has become somewhat of a standard for microblogging apps, so it was nice to see Posty finally include them. Automatic updates are nice because it allows users to keep on using the app without the worry of missing a critical update or new release. Also, being able to choose which services you have live inside your Posty window is a major benefit to the end user. If you don’t use a service, don’t turn it on.
If I were to provide strategic direction for Cesare and Posty, I would encourage him to finish incorporating the rest of the basic features from each platform. Once he has Identica and Pownce to the level that Twitter sits at, then he can start evaluating which other platforms to incorporate.
Have you tried using Posty for sending messages across platforms?
