The
Twitter that’s running half way around the world continues to evolve and test out new functionality. With partners Digital Garage, Twitter Japan has already added ads to the site and now Twitter has launched a new community site called Twicco.
Twicco allows Twitter users to create and follow a group in place of following individual users. Based on that and a video from Loic Le Meur, to me this sounds like subscribing to keywords from Twitter Search. However, with this new site only available in Japan the rest of the world will either have to wait to try it out or learn Japanese.
Will Twitter Japan Features Eventually Trickle Over to Regular Twitter?
The ads have been running on Twitter Japan for quite some time and this recent addition of groups is something else we haven’t seen yet from Twitter, although third-parties have taken up the opportunity in both situations to fill the gap.
- Ads: TwittAd is helping users sell their backgrounds for cash.
- Groups: Tweetworks is creating groups for users to participate in and follow
There’s been no indication from Twitter about whether or not Twitter Japan features will be coming to the Twitter the rest of us know, but there’s definitely a possibility. And as we suggested in our Tweetworks group, maybe Twitter will just buy their way into this functionality like they did with Summize.
