TwittAd Launches Affiliate Program for Referrals

TwittAd (@twittad), the service that helps you sell your Twitter profile background to advertisers and evaluate what your tweets are worth, launched two new features on their website yesterday. The first feature is an affiliate referral program, available for both users and advertisers, that allows the referrer to get paid when their referrals’ backgrounds are sold on TwittAd. The second feature is the implementation of a one-tweet promo message, tweeted on behalf of users whose backgrounds are purchased.

An Enticing Affiliate Program

Under the affiliate program rules, each referred user is monitored in the TwittAd system along with the referring user’s affiliate ID. For every sale made on those user accounts, the original referrer will receive 25% of the fees TwittAd collects. Once the affiliate account reaches $30, a payout can be requested.

If one user referred five new TwittAd users and each of those users sold their profile for $10, the affiliate would earn $1.25. If the affiliate referred 10 new users and each sold their profile for $25, the affiliate would earn $12.50.

At the bare minimum, an affiliate will collect at least $0.25 per referred user per sale. (TwittAd collects a minimum of $0.99 per sale and 25% of that is $0.25). It may not seem like much, but when you figure in the fact that you can continue to earn money over the lifetime of sales of the profile background, things start to add up.

TwittAd provides an affiliate link to users as well as two banner ads to use for promoting the service on their own blogs or websites.

Pushing a One-Tweet Promo

Although TwittAd has done a good job of explaining to advertisers and users how background ads can still be effective without actual hyperlinks, the addition of the one-tweet promo gives those advertisers who are still skeptical the chance to get a link included with their purchase.

The ‘thank you’ tweets will look something like, “Hey! My background is sponsored by (Company Name). Check out (Company URL)”, which TwittAd says they feel is not intrusive, as compared to some other ads-in-tweets services.

James Eliason (@jameseliason), CEO of TwittAd, had this to say:

We feel that this is a great opportunity for Twitter users to promote their background purchase, as well as a great opportunity for advertisers to get some recognition on Twitter, while not sending out spam advertisements.

The Verdict

Since the site launched, there are now over 1,300 profiles registered on the site with 100+ registered advertisers.

If you haven’t played around with the TwittAd service yet, feel free to sign up as one of our referrals. ;)

Cool service and idea. Affiliate marketing a good way to ramp up. That stats of 1300 profiles and 100+ advertisers are nice as well but I'd really be interested to know the percentage of conversion. How many profiles sold?

Thanks for the write up on our updates.

Hi Aaron, the % of conversion is low right now. This could be do to many factors:

    1) We are a relatively new startup, only being live for a little over 2 months.

    2) Twittad is the first way for people to advertise on Twitter.

As the first way to advertise on Twitter, some companies may be a little "gun shy" on going with this form of advertising. It is my belief that once more reports and analytics begin to come in on the success of larger campaigns on Twittad, more advertisers will begin to use this form of social media advertising.
