Today’s microterm is: microvolunteer
The term is being used by The Microvolunteerism Project, an initiative led by a team of individuals in Amsterdam that seeks to facilitate a network of non-for-profit projects and willing volunteers.
The Idea Behind the Project
The project has gotten involved with microblogging by leveraging Twitter to answer not-for-profit project questions, as summed up on the wiki.
The premise of the microvolunteer Twitter account (@microvolunteer) is as follows:
- [The organizer] will ask brainstorm/research questions of 140 characters or less.
- [I]f you feel like it, you can send an answer in one or more 140 character replies
- [Q]uestions Tweeted will originate from not-for-profit projects that are looking for help with something
- [A]ny feedback or responses sent will directly help the not-for-profit project asking the question!
In general, the team hopes to turn The Microvolunteerism Project “into a Web 2.0 style website” that will serve as a framework for organizing these not-for-profit projects and arranging volunteers, but they realize “it may take a while.”
