Twitter Posts Product Manager Opening

twitterIn 2008, Twitter has spent much of its time investing in the technology behind the platform and fighting numerous fires and failwhales. With the platform now able to weather the latest widespread news events and given current economic pressures, CEO Ev Williams has been very open with their plans to roll out their business model in Q1 of 2009. To do so, this all-engineering team also needs to start investing in people with a business background. As reported by TechCrunch, Twitter is starting to do just that.

Twitter recently posted a job opening on JobScore for a Business Product Manager. This role will be Twitter’s “first product manager focused on revenue generation” and is tasked with defining the features that it will monetize.

We know from previous interviews much of this work will be targeted around corporate services and developing additional features for those who may want to use Twitter for commercial purposes.

Additional responsibilities for this roll include:

  • Define products and feature sets of commercial-oriented Twitter applications
  • Manage the prioritization and development of new products and features
  • Work closely with engineering to develop product functionality
  • Work closely with customer support to solve issues and maximize user satisfaction
  • Do customer research to inform product decisions
  • Create detailed cost and revenue models
  • Define product positioning and marketing plans
  • Analyze and report product success

Many have chimed in with their thoughts on how Twitter should monetize their service. If you still think you have the big ticket idea, now is the right time to apply.
