European Banking Authority (EBA)

The European Banking Authority (EBA) is a regulatory agency of the European Union (EU) that focuses on promoting the stability and integrity of the banking sector within the EU. It was established in 2011 as a key component of the European System of Financial Supervision, following the financial crisis of 2008.

The main role of the EBA is to develop and harmonize banking regulations across the EU member states, ensuring a level playing field and consistent standards. It conducts stress tests and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities in the banking sector, and provides guidelines and recommendations to enhance the supervision and regulation of banks. Additionally, the EBA facilitates cooperation and information sharing between national competent authorities and acts as a mediator in resolving disputes between them. It also plays a significant role in promoting consumer protection and transparency in the banking sector, by developing and monitoring consumer protection measures, such as disclosures and regulatory technical standards. Overall, the EBA plays a crucial role in maintaining financial stability and fostering a well-functioning and secure banking system within the EU.
