Identity Proofing

Identity proofing is the process of verifying and validating an individual’s claimed identity before granting them access to a system or service. It involves collecting and examining different forms of evidence to ensure that the person is who they claim to be. This process typically involves the verification of personal information such as name, address, date of birth, and social security number, as well as the examination of supporting documents like government-issued IDs, passports, or utility bills.

In addition to document verification, identity proofing may include other methods such as knowledge-based authentication (KBA), where individuals are asked questions based on personally identifiable information (PII) that only they should know.
