News and events are breaking nearly 24×7 in the world of microblogging, but we’re a limited blogging crew. This weekend, as with many others, we opted for other activities over sitting by our computers so here are a few things we missed (but may cover in the future as events continue to unfold):
Twitter Clients Analyzed
Several blogs picked up and commented on the analysis of the most popular Twitter clients. Mashable seemed to kick off the discussion and several blogs added their thoughts. In a nutshell, more tweets are coming from desktop clients, Tweetdeck seems to have the largest share and Mashable wonders if Twitter will buy them (my thought is no). See the posts from Mashable, Twittermaven and 140char for more information.
Twitter OAuth Update
On louisgray.com, Jesse Stay posted about the future of Twitter and OAuth. Preview documentation is out and a closed beta for the OAuth API to developers should be out “by next week”. Additional information and speculation of an app direction can be found here.
Dalai Lama on Twitter
I first read that the Dalai Lama had joined Twitter from Read Write Web and then word continued to spread across Twitter. At first, I didn’t believe it myself but the Twitter profile seemed to the match the official website, the tweets felt authentic and the Twitter handle (@OHHDL) matched the contact info for the official website. As it turns out the profile is a fake. The profile is still up if you would like to follow it but the bio has been updated to reflect that it is not the official profile of the Dalai Lama. Facebook vs Twitter
A couple of great posts take a look at Facebook status updates and what it means to Twitter. In a nutshell Facebook announced that it would be making changes to its platform that will make it easier for developers to build applications using data from status updates, notes and shared links. From the blogs I have read no one seems to think this is a threat to Twitter. I tend to think differently. This may not get me to move to Facebook but this could stop a whole lot of others from ever opening a Twitter account. For more information check out: TechCrunch, GigaOM and VentureBeat.
This is our first weekend recap post and we are thinking we would like to do more of these. Let us know in the what you think of the format or if there was anything we missed. You can also send us your ideas and article leads by emailing us at tips@microblink.com.
